India Passport Requirements
Photo size: 35 × 45 mm. Resolution: 413 × 531 pixels or higher. Background: White (#FFFFFF). Head height: roughly 70–80% of the photo. Face centered and looking directly at the camera. Expression: Neutral; smile: Neutral; eyes: Open. Avoid no glasses, no hats, no shadows. Format: JPEG. Print size is 35 × 45 mm (ICAO-aligned). Older 51 × 51 mm square specs are not current passport.. Face / head typically occupies about 70%–80% of the photo height..
Suitable for India passport applications.
What size is an Indian passport photo?
Current Indian passport photos are commonly prepared as 35×45 mm with a plain white background—aligned with ICAO-style portraits used on Passport Seva. Older 51×51 mm square guidance still appears on some OCI or legacy forms; that is not the default for a new passport application today.
At 300 DPI, a practical digital export is 413×531 px. Some Passport Seva upload screens ask for other resolutions (for example around 630×810)—follow the form you are submitting and scale if needed.
Keep a neutral expression, eyes open, and avoid glasses. The face/head should fill most of the frame (about 70–80% of photo height) without looking cropped at the crown.
How SwapQ.ai helps with Indian passport photos
After upload, the tool applies the India passport template, prepares a white background, and shows a free watermarked preview so you can check crop and head size before downloading HD.
Useful for renewals, first passports, and travel packages when you need a quick preparation file. Final acceptance still depends on Passport Seva / MEA and the channel you use.
If your upload page asks for a different pixel size, start from our 35×45 export and resize to the instructions on that page.
Tips for a better India passport selfie
Stand in front of a plain wall with soft daylight. Keep the camera at eye level and look straight ahead. Leave a little space above the hair so the crop can keep head height in range.
Avoid beauty filters, group photos, and tinted glasses. One sharp face is the easiest input.
If the first preview feels too tight or too loose on the head, retake the selfie with more consistent lighting rather than forcing a weak crop.
Important compliance note
SwapQ.ai is an AI photo tool for preparation. Final acceptance depends on Passport Seva / MEA. Always review the latest official photo requirements before you submit.
We do not claim government endorsement. Inspect the free preview carefully before you download or submit.
